Populated from prehispanic times, the lake Patzcuaro has an important number of pre-Columbian communities. Around Janitzio island, the local fishermen still do early morning fishing in boats with famous butterfly nets. As of 1534, the city of Patzcuaro was a state capital. Nowadays the city is still the old style Mexican pueblo with cobblestoned streets, white walls & tile roofs. Enjoy the walk to famous House of the eleven patios, the large main square and spanish homes around it, plus the stop at the ice cream spot!
